Those of us with professional licenses have something in common, registration and continuing education requirements. Attorneys are required to reregister every two years and have completed twenty-four credits of continuing education, during the two year period. My husband, a chiropractor, has to reregister every three years and complete thirty-six hours of continuing education.

I have habitually completed my continuing education in the same way, taking a 6 or 7 credit class every fall and another every spring. There is a professional lecturer who lectures exclusively to Family Law attorneys and I always attend his classes. I actually enjoy continuing education and don’t mind the casual day away from the office.

This year I had to miss the fall class due to a scheduled trial, but I was certain I had made up the credits. As my registration is due this month I recently added up my credits and I was shocked to see I had only twenty-three; I was one credit short. I scrambled to find, and complete, a one credit online class.

The change to my routine troubled me to the point wherein I already looked up the date of the fall class so I don’t miss it this year. How do you complete your continuing education requirements?
